Kelly Clarkson was in Nashville last week for an annual convention of radio programmers, and she took the opportunity to debut a brand-new song, backed up by one of her favorite groups: Pistol Annies, a country trio featuring her buddy Blake Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert.
According to Yahoo!'s Our Country blog, at an invitation-only concert held on a boat, Kelly introduced the new, soulful and upbeat song by saying, "Unfortunately, you ain't gonna like this!" But that was actually the title of the track: it's called "You Ain't Gonna Like This," and the lyrics describe how, if you don't like certain legendary artists who've inspired her, you're not going to like her music, either.
Among the lyrics: "If you don't like Bonnie [Raitt], if you don't like Prince, if you don't like B.B. [King], if you don't like Vince [Gill], you ain't gonna like this." Another line went, "If you don't like Aretha [Franklin], well, I don't even wanna meet ya!" The lyrics also include shout-outs to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and her future mother-in-law, Reba McEntire. The song essentially was a tribute to Kelly's diverse musical influences, and about how she's unapologetic about liking soul, rock and country.
After the performance, Kelly tweeted, "BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!!!! It was an amazing night...We rocked the boat!!" She also posted a photo of herself posing backstage with Pistol Annies, whose members also include Ashley Monroe, the woman who sings with Pat Monahan on the Train song "Bruises."
